Abstract
In this paper a contact model for thermo-mechanically coupled simulations of rubber
friction processes is presented. Formulations are proposed for the friction coefficient,
depending on pressure, velocity and temperature, and for thermal parameters
for determination of the frictional heat generation and the heat conduction
across the contact interface. All formulations are based entirely on macroscopic
characteristics of the contacting solids.
An experimental setup for the determination of contact parameters and for the
validation of the presented contact model is described. Data measured at this setup
are compared to numerically obtained results stemming from the application of
the contact model in finite element simulations. Generally, good agreement is observed.
