Abstract
Mill rolls finished by electrical discharge texturing (EDT) are widely used in the
manufacture of steel and aluminium alloy sheet / strip. Appropriate selection of
process operating parameter levels: peak current, onloff time, polarity, etc.,
allows a limited degree of independence in specifying roll surface topography in
t e r n of surface roughness (Ra), peak count (Pc) and skewness (Rsk), in order to
meet specific functional requirements. Experimental work aimed at determining
the effect these operating parameters has been carried out and comprehensive
surface topography measurements made using a variety of non contact (white
light interferometer and laser units) and stylus contact systems. The paper details
