Abstract
The paper describes the modeling of a compressible and turbulent gap flow at
high gas pressures and high gas temperatures. A description of the measuring
technique applied and a detailed explanation of the numerical procedure is given.
The comparison of theory and experiment validates the gap flow model used for
predicting gas leakage effects in high pressure piston devices.
1 Introduction
1.1 Gas Leakage
In many industrial and scientific applications flows through gaps play an
important role, especially when sealing problems are present followed by gas
leakage. Gas leakage, e. g., may occur in labyrinth seals in jet engines as well as
along a piston moving, e.g.
