Abstract
The discrete element methods (DEM) are very often used in mechanics of
granular media. They substitute the formulations for solving continuum.
The DEM enables researchers to find local discontinuities in displacernents,
propagation of cracks, etc., although the location of such disturbances is
not known in advance. As is well known, the decisive points of instability
in a material of the slope are darnage states with localized stresses. On the
other hand, the classical creep is also very important for the most kinds of
soils.
In this paper free hexagon element method is used in combination with
nonlinear boundary elements. Mutual contacts obey Mohr-Coulomb law
with excluded tension and the mechanical behavior of the hexagon elements
themselves are ruled by time-dependent strain.
