Abstract
A new formulation is presented which models complex structures consisting of
multiple panels and supporting beams. The model uses both boundary elements
and finite elements in a way which uses the best characteristics of both methods.
New boundary element types are developed to represent the holes in a panel
where the fasteners connect structural panels to other panels or supporting
structures. These elements substantially simplify the modelling and provide a
mechanism where both linear and nonlinear fasteners can be specified.
An easy to use "wizard" type interface has been developed to specify the model
geometry and properties and examples are presented demonstrating its
application to some typical aerospace problem.
