Abstract
An n posteriori error estimation scheme is formulated and implemented for threedirncnsional,
steady-state, heat conduction problems using constant boundary elements.
Predicted element L, boundary error norms for temperature and flux are calculated from
least squares smoothing of the initial discontinuous boundary element solution. The global
predicted error norm is calculated by summing predicted element L, error norms. Global
predicted relative percentage error is used to measure the accuracy of a boundary element
solution and is calculated from the global predicated L2 error norm. Two example problems
are considered and the accuracy of the error estimates is compared with a fine boundary
element mesh of quadratic elements.
