Abstract
The development of transient indirect boundary element methods for porothermoelasticity
is described. The formulation is within the framework of
non-isothermal poroelasticity thus, it can be used to solve problems involving
coupled thermal and poromechanical processes. The integral equation
formulation and the numerical procedures are briefly described and an a p
plication is presented. In particular, the fictitious stress model is used to
study the stress and pore pressure distributions around a wellbore drilled in
hot rock. There is good agreement between the numerical predictions and
the analytical results. The numerical methods are useful for determining
the conditions for wellbore failure in hydraulic fracturing or drilling operations.
