Abstract
This paper assesses the seismic response of Mullardoch Dam. The EAGD-
SLIDE program is used to investigate the effects of different input motions,
variations in material properties, and dam-rock interface properties on the
seismic behaviour of gravity dams. The details of the seismic analysis carried
out on Mullardoch dam and findings of the progressive sliding behaviour and
earthquake-induced stresses within the dam body are presented.
1 Introduction
Seismic activity in the UK has been at a relatively low level throughout
recorded history and, as a consequence, few British dams have been designed
specifically to withstand earthquakes. However, as many dams are located
immediately upstream of centres of population, the number of casualties in an
