Abstract
The paper investigates the influence of the structure type (ferrite, ferrite + perlite
and tempered sorbite) and the structure parameters (grain and subgrain sizes, size
and distribution of sulphide particles) on the mechanism and rate of fatigue crack
propagation in low-alloy structural steels. The investigation results are obtained
using electron microscopy (on foil and carbon replicas) and scanning techniques.
1 Introduction
It is known [I-31 that the structure of steel significantly influences the
characteristics of cyclic crack resistance to fatigue fractures in structural steels. In
this process the degree of influence on the fatigue crack growth rate depends on a
