ABSTRACT
Surface laser upgrading techniques involving laser melting is becoming
increasingly significant in industry. Such process generally aims at im-
proving the surface properties, especially by enhancing the hardness of the
surface layer, its resistance to wear and corrosion and/or its property gradi-
ents. Temperature rise inside the material and surface cooling rate are two
important factors which affect the surface properties significantly. Conse-
quently, investigation into heat transfer mechanism during laser melting
process becomes necessary for surface upgrading.
In the present study, heat transfer model, including conduction, melting
and evaporation, based on electron kinetic theory is introduced for pulsed
laser
