ABSTRACT
This paper presents a BEM formulation for phase change problems using a time-
dependent fundamental solution, a convolution-type time-marching scheme and
a predictor-corrector iterative algorithm. This formulation can be applied to the
cases of one or more phases, but special attention is given herein to one-phase
melting problems with Neumann boundary conditions.
INTRODUCTION
Problems of heat transfer with change of state are of importance in several
branches of engineering. From the mathematical point of view, the inherent
nonlinearity of such moving boundary problems poses significant theoretical dif-
ficulties, while their practical application generally requires a numerical method
of solution.
