ABSTRACT
Velocity can not be used as boundary condition to calculate internal flows
promoted by thermal buoyancy connected to the outside environment through
ventilation openings. Pressure loss characteristics of the ventilation openings
can be used as a mean to calculate velocities at the openings. The way how this
boundary condition is introduced in a finite volume approach for both
staggered and a nonstaggered grid formulations is presented and analyzed.
INTRODUCTION
Internal flows promoted by thermal buoyancy, such as natural ventilation and
fire inside room buildings, are almost the cases fully turbulent and three
dimensional. To simulate the turbulent flow a k-e two-equation turbulence
