ABSTRACT
A number of low Reynolds number k-e turbulence models have been used to simulate
turbulent forced convection in a pipe with linearly increasing and decreasing flowrates.
Under such conditions, the temperature field is influenced by delays in the response
of the turbulence field and by the transient nature of the thermal diffusion and
convection processes. Results from three typical models are presented here and
compared with experimental data. The general features of the response of the
temperature field observed in the experiment are reproduced quite well with all the
models. However, as far as the detailed development of the temperature field within
the near-wall region is concerned, clear differences in performance of the models are
evident.
