Abstract

The Toronto Transit Commission, in Ontario, Canada, is currently embarking on a major, multi billion dollar, Rapid Transit Expansion Program. In order to ensure the new lines and extensions are designed, constructed and operated in a safe, efficient and cost-effective manner, computer-based techniques are finding widespread application in many aspects of the program, including: program management, design, computer simulations, and advanced train control systems. 1 Introduction The Toronto Transit Commission (TTC), in Ontario, Canada, is committed to maintaining the highest levels of service quality for transit riders in the Metropolitan Toronto area; an area covering over 630 square kilometres.
